Plebe Swimming Team, and in season could be seen struggling with the
dinghies. To indulge in the former, he was known to have arisen many times
before reveille." He made wartime deployments on USS Valley Forge,
USS Philippine Sea and USS Intrepid. Following retirement in
1970 he became the chief test pilot and flight test engineer for Piper,
Inc.

(LB) "Faced with a dirth of
hunting and fishing, Fox George ruined several pairs of shoes on
the by-paths of Annapolis before turning to yawl sailing. He skippered
many crews on battalion races and dragging trips. But Frank's most
noteworthy asset was his ready smile that meant he was a loyal friend of
yours." He was a retired Navy Lieutenant;
employed by the Toledo Scale Company as an electrical engineer. He died in
South Pasadena, CA.

COL. JOHN E. REID, USAF - MAY 17, 2002

(LB) "Never having wrestled
before entering the Academy, he had to work hard, but was well compensated
with a berth on the squad. However, academics were always his primary
interest, showing hs thorough sincerity for the task at hand." He
served in the USAF until 1977. John was Director of Acquisition at the
Defense Nuclear Agency when he retired in 1985.

DR. HOWELL P. HOOVER, JR. - MAY

interest to him were on the eye chart, so studies never proved much of a
strain. A defender of the Blue and Gold, Howell claims only that there are
"too many damned Yankees" and "not enough time to
eat"." He was discharged 6/02/50, became a medical doctor and veteran of the Korean Conflict.

(LB) "Academically, the
scientific studies fell his way effortlessly and even the classical ones
couldn't lick him. After breaking an arm in Plebe Soccer, he reverted to
the company variety, but with the same characteristic aggressiveness.
According to the present performance data, his upward climb will be steady
and methodical over a period of at least twenty years."

LT. PHILLIP WRIGHT SMITH, USN - MAR.
30, 2002

He served on USS Des Moines,
earned his
wings in 1952, and deployed on USS Midway, USS Bennington and
USS Randolph. He resigned in
1956. Phil was an Investment banker; vice-president of sales, Delaware Management
Company. He established a real estate brokerage firm dealing in commercial
properties. His interment followed the playing of "Happy Days are Here
Again", at his request.

LT. JAMES A. ROBINSON, USN - MAR. 20,
2002

He earned his wings in 1952. While at
VF-61, he flew F9F Panther and Cougar while on USS Midway and USS Champlain.
Jim resigned in 1958 and took over the family business, "Coral Ridge
Interiors". He then went into real estate and later retired to Denver, CO in 1999.

CAPT. DONALD C. SATTLER, USN - MAR. 05,
2002

An aviator, he flew the Skyraider,
F-4 and A4D aboard USS Roosevelt, USS Wasp and USS Lexington.
He was also a flight instructor, Staff
officer at NORAD, CINC Atlantic Fleet Staff. XO Tripoli, CO Tactical
Squadron, CO Tactical Air Control Group Two, Norfolk, VA. He graduated
from the Naval War
College with distinction, received an MA in International Affairs, and was
a REALTOR in
retirement.
