 CAPT. THOMAS E. VINES, USN - DEC. 13. 2011

L.B. "Tom's two years of Civil Engineering at Clemson College, his Coxswain Rate, and two years of Navy service are apparent in his reserved, mature manner - until he starts chuckling over escapades such as being chased through three wings of Bancroft, and finally caught, by a single-minded Commander. Tom is easy going, but also a serious minded lad who spends much of his time at self improvement." He served two tours of duty with the Seventh Fleet during the Korean Police Action, and commanded a destroyer during the Vietnamese Conflict. He served in the office of the Joint Chiefs of Staff; and on the staff of the Commander-in-Chief, Pacific Fleet; and on General Westmoreland's staff in Saigon.
CDR. GEORGE B. HALPERIN, USN - DEC. 07, 2011

George entered the Supply Corps, serving on the USS Mississippi and the USS Picking. He received an MBA at Stanford University, an MA in History from the University of Vermont, and a Master of Education Degree at Harvard University.  He taught history/social studies at Stowe High School in Vermont, also serving as head of the department and assistant principal. Fluent in German, he taught American and European History at at the Kennedy Schule in West Germany until 1986. He embraced life's pleasures with gusto.
CAPT. WALTER R. WAGNER, USN - DEC. 5, 2011

L.B. "His tremendous brawn is in marked contrast to his love for all types of music and easy-to-get-along-with disposition." He received a Bachelor of Civil Engineering degree at RPI, and a BAMATH at the University of Hawaii. Upon retirement he worked for Consolidated Railroad where he retired at age 62.
 
LT. EDWARD C. STELLA, USN - OCT. 17, 2011

L.B. "Ed's outstanding trait is to listen well and say little, although when needed he is always there with the right dope". After leaving the Navy, he went to Seattle and worked for Boeing as an engineer in the Aerospace Division for thirty years.

L.B. "He could  identify and appreciate any music from Beethoven to Kenton and was known for his will power which usually manifested itself in a monthly vow to cut out smoking for life."
 
MR. DAVID T. GOCHENOUR, USN - AUG. 27, 2011

L.B. "A natural athlete, and a hard worker, he turned in excellent performances on the soccer field and in the wrestling loft." He served on the destroyer U.S.S. Gurke during the Korean Conflict as one of the sitting ducks at Inchon. His ship received the Presidential Unit Citation.
 
LT. ROBERT J. WHITE, USN - AUG. 16, 2011

L.B. "A whiz on liberal arts courses, and a gifted writer, Bob devoted much of his energy and talent to the publication of the Log. A mainstay of the fencing team, his outside class activities were rounded out with wide reading and planning for the flights home on leave."  He was assigned to U.S.S. HERBERT J. THOMAS, 1950-1951; flight training, 1951-1952; VF-172, Jacksonville,1952-1954; Flag Lt. ComFAirJax, 1954-1955; Safety School; Instructor, JTTU Olathe, Kansas;,1956-1957; and resigned in 1957. He entered investment work, was Chairman, Foreign Polcy Association of Minnesota; President, Minneapolis Great Books Council; and retired as editor of the Minneapolis Star Tribune.

L.B. "Tall, debonair, and an all-around swell fellow - that's Mac." He resigned as a LTJG, USN in 1955; promoted to LCDR USNR. Later he was a Director, Automotive Engineering, Europe, for the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company.
 
LT. WILLIAM S. TAYLOR, USAF - JUN. 27, 2011

L.B. "A hard worker and  and astute diplomat,  Bill hopes to find a place in the Navy where his talent for public speaking can be best utilized." He was a pilot in the 8th Fighter Wing, Korea; and later assigned to Lincoln Labs, M.I.T. He joined IBM in 1955. He received a JD Degree from George Washington University and  became a law attorney with Taylor and Rea,  PLC.

RADM. JOHN T. COUGHLIN, USN - JUN. 19, 2011

L.B. "When John wasn't hitting the books, his duties as football manager kept him pretty busy. He was completely at ease with either a slide rule or a bottle of beer in his hand, but his success lay in the fact that he never tried to hold both at the same time." He was a Naval Aviator, and joined Airborne Early Warning Squadron Three in Guam. He earned a master of Science Degree at the Naval Post Graduate School in 1955. His assignments included staff of the Joint Chiefs of Staff; Commandant of the Twelfth Naval District;  Commander of Military Sealift Command, Pacific; Deputy Director of Logistics Directorate; and Assistant Vice Chief of Naval Operations
 
MR. JOHN S. MCFEATERS, USN - JUN. 2, 2011

CAPT. FRANK H. FEATHERSTON, USN - MAY 27, 2011

Initially assigned to USS PALAU, then to flight training; he attended the USN Post Graduate School in 1954-1956 period. He was assigned at the Radiation Laboratory, Monterrey, CA and then the ABC Defense School, Treasure Island. He was Reactor Project Officer, Systems for Nuclear Auxilliary Power, Atomic Eergy Commission, Germantown, MD, and then returned to the USN Post Graduate School for an advanced degree in solid state physics, 1960-1963.
 
COL. THOMAS E. BULGER, USMC - APR. 20, 2011

L.B. " His willingness to compromise, pleasant companionship and ever-ready humor will bolster the ranks of the Marines as they did the tattered squads of of the good old 22nd." Tom served as a Platoon Commander in Korea, as Executive Officer and Ass't. Operations Officer of  the Fifth Marine Regiment. He commanded the Third Marine Battalion, 1st Marine Division; and was Force Liaison Officer to the Republic of Korea Marine Corps Brigade. He received a Silver Star in both the Korean and Viet Nam Campaigns, the Legion of Merit with Combat "V" and two purple hearts, retiring as Colonel after 26 years of service.
 
CAPT. JOHN P. CADY, JR., USN - MAR. 24, 2011

Pete served on U.S.S. ST. PAUL in Korea, then entered submarine school. He served on U.S.S. HALFBEAK, U.S.S. TUSK, and U.S.S. SKIPJACK before taking command of U.S.S. SEAWOLF. In 1968 he took command of U.S.S. GEORGE BANCROFT. His last active duty assignment was ComSubLant staff at Norfolk, VA. In retirement he worked in the Nuclear Engineering Field and later with Public Service Company of New Hampshire..

Bob was in the 1st Marine Division, Korea, 1951-1952; Inspector-Instructor, Marine Reserve Company, 1954-1956; C.O., Marine Detachment, U.S.S. Hornet, 1956-1958; First Marine Division, Camp Pendleton, CA, 1958-1960; Weapons System Course, USNPGS, Monterey.
 
CDR. LARRY L. HAWKINS, USN - FEB. 26, 2011

L.B. " Life was a little more enjoyable when he whiled away an hour or two on his uke or sweet potato, and a little more interesting because of his artistry with pen and crayon."  He was Class Executive Secretary.
CAPT. WILLIS A. MATSON II, USN - FEB. 24,2011

L.B. "A serious manner, an emotional alertness,  and a native enjoyment of literature and music might have portended a life miscast at Navy, but ability and work have have gained Bill a fine record in academics, sports and extracirricular activities." Bill sang heartily with the Twelve-Fifties at the Academy. After becoming a submariner, he served aboard the U.S.S. SKATE. He served on the U.S.S. NAUTILUS in 1959 and 1960; later Commanding SUBRON 2 which included Nautilus.
LT. AMBROSE P. MCCOY, JR., USN - JAN. 30, 2011

 L.B. "He brought with him a cheerful fighting spirit, which he carried everywhere, whether it was to the athletic field, debater's rostrum, or classroom.. He brought with him, too, a New England education, acquired in three previous years, at Brown University."
He was in the Korean War. Following resignation he earned an MBA from Harvard Business School, and became Vice President at Craven Community College in Bern, NC.
 
RADM. DONALD P. HALL, USN - JAN. 25, 2011

He served aboard the U.S.S. NAUTILUS on its first under ice transit of the North Pole in 1958. He was Executive Officer on the U.S.S. LAFAYETTE, C.O. of U.S.S. HENRY L. STIMSON, C.O. of U.S. Naval Submarine School; Commander of Naval Submarine Squadron Six; TRIDENT Program Manager;  and Commander of Submarine Group Six. In retirement he held senior positions at the Illinois Power Company and later at Houston Lighting and Power.
