COL. JAMES H. HALL, USAF - NOV. 16, 2001

Colonel Hall was retired from the United States Air Force after a career of 31 years as a fighter pilot. He served in World War II and the Korean Conflict.

LT. WILLIAM G. PETTY, USN - OCT. 04, 2001

Submariner, on  SS Cubera and  SS Sea Lion. Expert in cyrogenics. Retired from National Aeronautics and Space Administration in 1977. Flight instructor in single engine aircraft. Bridge Life-master.

LT. WILLIAM T. RASSIEUR, JR., USAF - SEP. 25, 2001

Awarded the Air Medal for service in Korea in the Air Force, he was discharged for injuries in 1955. He then became an engineer and program manager for Lockheed Missiles and Space Corp. in Sunnyvale, CA, and Austin, TX. .

LT. ELLIS H. BUCKLEY, USN - SEP. 03, 2001

A member of the Old Dominion Alumni Association and retired senior engineer with the Newport News Shipbuilding Company.

COL. GAYLE L. MAY, USAF - AUG. 17, 2001

Commissioned in the Air Force, he served as forward air controller in Korea. Resigned to Reserves, retiring as Colonel, USAFR. Worked on NASA and military space programs for TRW, Westinghouse and others. Established his own space consulting firm. Director of National Military Intelligence Association. President of American Astronautical Society. Activist in International Space Program activity.

Received BS in electrical engineering from Lafayette College and an MA from the University of Maryland. Administrator for Penn State university. Director of the York, PA campus.

LTJG. EDWARD P. KNOX, USN - MAY 05, 2001

(LB) "Eep had been around a lot during three years of V-5, the Reserves and V-12 - but youngster cruise was his first touch with sea duty. EPK had little trouble with academics, standing well up in the first third. When he was a football manager he could always be soft-touched for a free ticket."

 

MAJ. JACK BARRY, JR., USAF - APR. 06, 2001

(LB) "He was a regular Patrick Henry when it came to liberty, and much to the consternation of his wife was capable of half-hour shaves. Jack's main complaint remained Article 5461, which refused midshipmen automobiles - inhuman, he claimed."

 

LT. MARVIN V. SCHLAPPI, JR., USAF - APR. 05, 2001

(LB) "On entering the Academy, he became involved in the fight to survive. He was well known by his classmates - and certain profs as well - for his quick wit and ready tongue. His favorite pastime was swapping jokes with the boys between evening meal and study hour. Slap has been bothered with eye trouble, which is probably due to excessive staring after young femmes.

CAPT. JOHN E. NIESSE, USN - MAR. 04, 2001

John served on USS Warrington (DD-843). He became a Submariner, serving on USS Trout (SS-566); Following his resignation In 1955, he remained active in the Navy Reserve Program, achieving the rank of Captain, USNR. He obtained a science degree from MIT, then worked for Crane, Carborundum, Avco and Montesanto Corporatuons.

LT. THOMAS K. DYER, USAF - FEB. 10, 2001

Tom resigned from the Air Force in 1954, to work for Kentucky Home Mutual Life in Louisville, KY. He later worked for the Lincoln National Life and Pacific Mutual Life companies. He retired in 1992 as Regional Vice President of Pacific Mutual Life. A pillar of the church, Medical Technician for the fire department and a member of the Utility Commission of his community.

LT. BERNARD B. LANE, USAF - FEB. 05, 2001

B.B. served in Saudi Arabia in the Air Force. He retired as Chairman of the Board of the Lane Company in Alta Vista, VA in 1987, and served as director and chairman of several charities. He also served on the boards of the Virginia Port Authority, Food for the Hungry, Inc., Project Concern International, and the Commission of Urological Research at Duke University Medical Center.
